Writing is thinking

Writing is thinking.

Writing is giving shape to thoughts, opinions and feelings. Making the intangible tangible.

Writing is working over an idea as you would a piece of code, a song or a painting. The process matters more than the idea. The end product may not look anything like the initial idea.

Ideas are cheap. They come and go. An idea is only as good the effort you put into bringing it to fruition.

Not every piece of writing you do is going to be good, but all of it is important. It’s always better to write something bad than to not write at all.

The more you write, the more things you’ll have to write about. Like a muscle, you’re training your brain. You’ll find it easier to make connections. You’ll be inspired by what you read, see or listen to, more receptive to ideas that spark new thoughts or bring light to old ones.

If you feel like you have nothing to write about, you’re not looking deep enough.

If you feel like writing is a chore, take a break! But never forget that you are a writer. Whether you do it or not at this moment isn’t important. If you’re not writing right now, you’re preparing yourself for writing in the future.

You don’t need to share everything you write, but you can and you should. Others will probably interpret your words in new and interesting ways. Your words can be the spark that ignites someone else’s fire.
